Firmenich wins Award for outstanding Workforce Development

Singapore based company gets recognition for its focus on People & Skills

Firmenich, a world leader in developing and marketing fragrance and flavors, has been honoured for its dedication to the development of the local workforce. The Singapore based company which promotes strong partnerships with local universites, has evolveld as the winner of the inaugural SwissCham Award 2017 for Excellence in People & Skills Development. The award which was presented on Saturday by SwissCham chairman Tom Ludescher recognizes outstanding contributions in upgrading skills of employees.

« Swiss companies have a long-standing tradition in people and skills development », explained Tom Ludescher. « The dual-educational system, i.e. people choose between university education or an accredited apprenticeship on the job to become a specialist in one particular field. Strong industry training initiatives have substantially contributed to the skills clusters of world reference. This approach, fully embraced by Firmenich, is most relveant to Singapore, according to Ludescher.

Firmenich is the world’s largest privately-owned company in the fragrance and flavor business. Founded in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1895, Firmenich has created many of the world’s best known perfumes and flavors.  The firm is holding about 2500 patents in that field. Being a major player in the fragrance and flavor industry, it employs around 6500 people worldwide, of which about 250 are based in Singapore.

Commenting on the award, Rajan Arul, General Manager and Vice President Perfumery (Asia), said:  „This award reinstates the importance of recognising different cultures in the region and their skills to create the passion within our fragrance and flavor industry“.

Marché Mövenpick Restaurants Singapore wins the Excellence in People & Skills Award

Singapore based company gets recognition for its focus on People & Skills

Marché Mövenpick Restaurants Singapore (Marché), one of the pioneers of front cooking, has been honored for its dedication to the skills development of its employees. The Singapore based company that also works with local polytechnics and Institute of Higher Education (ITE) to provide internship opportunities to students, has evolved as the winner of the SwissCham Excellence in People & Skills Development Award 2018. The Award, now in its second year, has been created by the Swiss Chamber  of Commerce and Industry in Singapore (SwissCham).

« Putting strong emphasis on the human factor and on talent development is key for preparing our society for industry 4.0 », explains Dr. Tom Ludescher, Chairman of SwissCham. He comments that Swiss companies have a long-standing tradition in investing in people and skills, nursing a culture of innovation and successfully building up talent clusters for every key industry.
