If AI can automate tasks, what happens to the human expertise people need to develop?
As Artificial Intelligence becomes embedded in business processes, the challenge is no longer simply adopting new tools. It is rethinking how work is designed, how skills are developed and how people and AI can work together effectively.

As part of SwissCham Singaporeโs AI Leadership Series, our tenth event brought together perspectives from business, government and education to explore how organisations can prepare their workforce for an AI-enabled future.
- Organisations must rethink how automation and human judgement complement each other.
- Critical thinking, adaptability and AI literacy are increasingly important across roles.
- Training must help employees develop practical expertise, not just use new tools.
- Leadership, trust and effective change management remain essential.
A big thank you to our moderator, Deepika Zingade, Head HR South East Asia at Swiss Re, for guiding the conversation, and to our speakers for sharing their insights:
- Andrea Cheng, Chair of the People & Skills Committee and Associate Director at Multipolitan
- Brandon Lee, Chief Futures Officer at Skills & Workforce Development Agency
- Cindy Lee, SVP and Head of Cluster at The Adecco Group
- Jason Tamara Widjaja, Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Singapore Tech Center at MSD
- Sima Saadat, Senior Director and Country Manager at General Assembly
The discussion reinforced an important point: the future of work is not only about what AI can do, but how organisations enable people to learn, adapt and contribute alongside it.
