What does building sustainably in the tropics look like in practice?

At our recent session, “Building for the Tropics: Design, Climate, and Sustainability”, industry experts explored how design, materials and engineering can work together to create more sustainable buildings in tropical climates.

Manuel Der Hagopian, Founding Partner at G8A Architecture & Urban Planning, opened with examples from Singapore, including Punggol Waterway Terraces and Tampines GreenVines, as well as the Jakob Factory in Vietnam, highlighting the role of passive design and natural ventilation.

A panel moderated by Laurent C., Co-Chair of SwissCham Singapore’s Climate Tech Committee and Managing Director at HTT SEA, brought together perspectives from across the built environment:

The discussion explored practical approaches ranging from natural building materials to engineering solutions that optimise material use, as well as the challenges of scaling these solutions across the industry.

A sincere thank you to G8A Architecture & Urban Planning, TB80 and Holcim for their support in making this event possible, and to our speakers and participants for contributing to a valuable exchange on sustainable building in the tropics.
